Outsourcing Coverage Analysis and Budget Development
WCG has been selected as the vendor to provide outsourcing services for coverage analysis and budget development and negotiations. Five primer studies are being selected to develop the workflow and standardized process that will be utilized. We are targeting the Fall to initiate the transition for all Industry initiated studies to utilize these services.
Opt-Out for Research
Weill Cornell Medicine, Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian are working to change the default selection of patients being contacted for research from opt-in to opt-out. Transitioning from an opt-in to an opt-out model means all patients who have selected ‘OK to Contact’ or are unanswered are eligible to be contacted for clinical research opportunities. Patients must explicitly choose to decline. Making this change will significantly increase the number of patients who can be contacted, while allowing patients to retain the option to decline. Patients can update their communication preferences at any time through their patient portal, during check-in or by contacting one of the three institutions directly. Preferences will be retained for patients who have made a selection in their portal or at check-in under the current opt-in process.
The switch to opt-out is in the final stages and we expect this to go-live in early Fall. Researchers will need to wait six months to submit new research projects using the opt-out population to give patients sufficient time to understand the change and update their preferences as necessary.
Florence eBinders
WCM is transitioning the management of electronic regulatory binders and participant charts from the Online Research Binder (ORB) to Florence eBinders. The project kickoff meeting was held in mid-August and our anticipated go-live is late Fall. We are working closely with Florence and ITS to set timelines and deliverables, and have engaged study teams across the organization, including BMH and NYP-Q, to be part of our implementation team.

Sponsor Engagement Meetings – Bringing WCM and Industry Together
The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) hosted the inaugural Sponsor Engagement meeting with Novartis on June 18th. More than 25 faculty attended across several therapeutic areas including cardiology, immunology, oncology, renal, and rheumatology. The Sponsor Engagement meetings offer a platform for our faculty to collaborate directly with leading pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies. These strategic sessions aim to provide a deep dive into industry pipelines across their core therapeutic areas, sparking increased clinical trial and clinical research opportunities.
